Walker Mowers: Common Questions
Is a Walker worth the extra over a normal zero-turn?
If the finish and the clean-up matter to you, yes. A mid-mount zero-turn is faster and cheaper per centimetre of deck, but it discharges clippings and scalps more readily on contour. A Walker with GHS catches the lot, leaves a presentation-grade cut and holds its resale value strongly. For a paddock, buy the zero-turn. For a lawn you’re proud of, buy the Walker.
What deck size should I choose?
Start with your narrowest gateway and your tightest turn, not your land area. Most Te Awamutu lifestyle blocks land on a 107 cm or 122 cm deck; go to 132 cm or wider only if the property is genuinely open. We measure it with you rather than guess.
How does the catcher cope with wet Waikato spring grass?
Better than most, but nothing is immune. The GHS system uses deck airflow rather than a simple chute, so it keeps filling when a conventional rear catcher would block. Raise the deck a notch, slow down slightly, and empty more often in the first flush of spring growth.
Can you service it locally?
Yes — that’s the point of buying it here. Walker servicing, blade sharpening, deck and catcher repairs and warranty work are all done in our own workshop at 424 Ohaupo Road, with parts on the shelf.
Do you take trade-ins on a Walker purchase?
We do, on any brand of ride-on. Bring it in or have us look at it during the on-site demo, and we’ll give you an honest figure based on what we know it will sell for once we’ve been through it.
