Built for Bigger Mowing Jobs
Powerful engines, strong cutting decks and comfortable machines designed to cover ground efficiently.
Built to Make Big Lawns Feel Smaller
When there’s a lot of grass to mow, the right machine can make a big difference.
Cub Cadet builds lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers around the things that matter on larger properties: strong engines, durable cutting decks, responsive handling and operator comfort.
The range gives you plenty of choice too.
Go with a conventional lawn tractor for familiar steering and all-round mowing, choose a dedicated catching tractor when a clean finish matters, or step into a zero-turn when speed and manoeuvrability are the priority.
At STIHL SHOP Te Awamutu, we’ll help you choose based on your property rather than simply pointing you toward the biggest mower in the showroom.
Tell us how much you’re mowing, what the terrain is like and what you want your next mower to do better.
Four Reasons to Consider Cub Cadet
Strong Cutting Decks
From tough pressed-steel decks through to heavy-duty fabricated designs, Cub Cadet offers cutting systems built for regular mowing across larger properties.
Proven Engine Power
Selected Cub Cadet models use Kawasaki V-Twin engines to provide dependable power for longer grass and bigger mowing areas.
Responsive Handling
Tight-turning lawn tractors and true zero-turn models make it easier to work around trees, gardens and other obstacles.
Operator Comfort
High-back seating, hydrostatic drive systems and thoughtfully positioned controls make longer mowing sessions easier on the operator.
Popular Cub Cadet Ride-On Models
From versatile lawn tractors to high-capacity catching and zero-turn machines, these four models cover very different mowing requirements.
The right choice depends on your property, terrain, access, desired finish and how much time you spend mowing.
XT2 1023
The dedicated catching option for larger lawns and lifestyle blocks — powerful, comfortable and designed to collect clippings as you mow for a clean, tidy finish.
Z2 42
A compact true zero-turn for larger residential lawns where manoeuvrability matters, with a fabricated deck and responsive lap-bar control for efficient mowing around obstacles.
ZTX5 48
A serious step up for larger properties and demanding workloads, combining a commercial-grade 48-inch fabricated deck, heavier-duty drive system and high levels of operator comfort.
Specifications shown are indicative of the current New Zealand models and may change between model years. We’ll confirm current specifications, availability and pricing when you enquire — and if another mower better suits your property, we’ll tell you.
Get Behind the Controls Before You Decide
Specifications can tell you how wide the deck is and what’s under the bonnet.
They can’t tell you how the mower feels to drive on your property.
Talk to our team about comparing Cub Cadet models and arranging a demonstration where available. We’ll help you look at the things that actually matter — access, terrain, obstacles, cutting width, comfort and how much mowing you need to get through.

Cub Cadet Mowers: Common Questions
What customers commonly want to know before choosing between a Cub Cadet lawn tractor and zero-turn.
Should I choose a Cub Cadet lawn tractor or zero-turn?
It comes down to how your property is laid out and what matters most to you.
A lawn tractor gives you familiar steering and is a strong general-purpose option for larger lawns. The XT2 1023 also gives you integrated grass collection if catching is important.
A zero-turn such as the Z2 42 or ZTX5 48 offers much tighter manoeuvrability and can save considerable time where you have a larger area or plenty of trees, gardens and obstacles.
Tell us about the property and we’ll help you compare both.
What’s the difference between the XT1 and XT2 1023?
Both are 42-inch lawn tractors, but they’re designed around different priorities.
The XT1 18/42 is a versatile side-discharge lawn tractor with an 18HP Kawasaki engine and hydrostatic transmission.
The XT2 1023 steps up to a 21.5HP Kawasaki engine and incorporates a large 320-litre rear catcher, making it the stronger choice where collecting clippings and leaving a tidy finish are priorities.
Is a 42-inch or 48-inch zero-turn better for my property?
A wider deck isn’t automatically better.
A 48-inch mower such as the ZTX5 48 can cover open areas with fewer passes, while the 42-inch Z2 is easier to fit through tighter access and can make sense on more landscaped properties.
Start with your narrowest gateway, the amount of open mowing area and how many obstacles you work around.
Which Cub Cadet is best for a lifestyle block?
That depends on what the block actually looks like.
For open general mowing, the XT1 can be an excellent straightforward option. If catching is important, look at the XT2 1023. For properties with lots of obstacles or where reducing mowing time is the priority, a Z2 42 or larger zero-turn may make more sense.
Terrain is just as important as total land area, so talk to us before making the decision.
Can I use a Cub Cadet on sloping ground?
Suitability depends on the exact mower, slope and ground conditions.
Current NZ specifications for these models set maximum slope limits, but that shouldn’t be treated as a target operating angle. If your property has banks or significant slopes, show us the terrain and we’ll help you determine which machine is appropriate.
Can you service Cub Cadet mowers locally?
Yes. That’s one of the advantages of buying through STIHL SHOP Te Awamutu.
Our workshop can provide servicing, maintenance and repair support for suitable Cub Cadet mowers, so you have local backup after the machine leaves the showroom.
Do you take ride-on mower trade-ins?
Talk to us about the mower you currently own when you’re considering a Cub Cadet.
We can assess the machine and discuss the options available as part of your upgrade.
